When Building in Tasmania, a Bushfire Hazard Management Plan is required for any new development within a 'bushfire-prone area'.

An accredited Bushfire Hazard Practitioner will need to assess the site to determine the bushfire attack level (BAL) and prepare a written report and associated management plan for the development. This is required as part of the documentation to gain a building permit.

It is recommended that an assessment is made during the concept stage of planning your build as the bushfire requirements may impact on the design and construction elements.

It would also be beneficial to seek advice before purchasing a block of land, or even an existing home, as building for bushfire requirements may impact on any future building work, including any proposed renovations, additions, sheds or garages.
